about us

These participants set the ecosystem in motion

The Netherlands faces major and urgent challenges. CO2 and nitrogen emissions must be significantly reduced. We need 900,000 additional homes in cities, the climate urgently requires adjustments to the built environment, and energy supply can no longer be taken for granted.

The DMI ecosystem is designed for governments, businesses, and knowledge institutions.

Smart urbanization
CROW has collaborated with experts in the field to develop the new publication "STOMP in practice": a practical step-by-step plan for road design based on the STOMP principle. This principle focuses on sustainable mobility by giving priority first to walking, then cycling, followed by public transport, MaaS, and finally private cars.
Communications
As of January 1, 2026, we have transferred the management of the website, the CRM system, and the online collaboration environment to Didiwedo. This digital agency from Rotterdam will take over the work previously carried out by ConnAct. With this decision, we are ensuring the long-term technical availability of the platform.
DMI ecosystem
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management (IenW) recently sent a letter to interested parties informing them of the planned launch of pilot projects involving autonomous road transport in 2026. The letter follows widespread and enthusiastic responses from the field to earlier announcements.

With no fewer than 108 data products, the municipality of Nijmegen is currently one of the largest data providers in the Product and Data Exchange (PDX) of the DMI ecosystem. Agethe Derkse, Chief Data Officer of Nijmegen, believes it makes sense to share data in this way. "That data belongs to the citizens. Others can learn from it or use it to improve and innovate."
Logistics
The pressure on space in our inner cities is rapidly increasing. Logistics traffic, terraces, cyclists, and pedestrians claim every square meter, multiple times a day. Municipalities are looking for ways to organize loading and unloading areas more efficiently, fairly, and above all, more intelligently. A new legal analysis by law firm AKD provides clarity: many of the desired digital measures are simply possible.
DMI ecosystem
How can you build faster and more sustainably in a city where space is scarce and the challenge is great? During a meeting of the Spring Agreement on Circular Industrial Construction, Mattijs Rommelse, construction director for the municipality of Rotterdam, provided insight into his city's approach. "Collaborating, agreeing on rules, digitizing, and sharing knowledge. That is the way forward."
