mobility
mobility: controlling movement in
a changing environment
Building the mobility of the future together
Cities are becoming increasingly crowded and congested with people, traffic, homes, offices, and amenities. This poses challenges for quality of life and mobility. Rural areas face different challenges. Transport services are shrinking and stops are disappearing. This puts pressure on the accessibility of amenities and the affordability of transport. A case in point is that young people choose a particular course of study because that educational institution is more accessible. This means that we may be failing to make the most of talent and potential.
In recent years, there has been a great deal of analysis and research in the field of mobility solutions. The time has now come to work together to develop and implement concrete solutions. Within the Theme of the DMI ecosystem, we are joining forces to achieve precisely that: to jointly develop digital, scalable mobility solutions that directly contribute to sustainable, livable, and easily accessible cities and rural areas.
background
Working together on digital insight and effective solutions
Together, we are building a shared digital foundation that provides insight into how people move around the Netherlands. We do this in partnerships between companies, governments, and knowledge institutions, and in close collaboration with residents and local authorities. We develop and link existing tools, data, and models. We look at how people move through their city, neighborhood, region, or corridor, which target groups have which mobility needs, and which bottlenecks arise from housing projects, new economic activity, or changing travel behavior.
Coherence
Mobility does not exist in isolation, which is why we explicitly look at the bigger picture: what is the social impact of policy choices such as parking hubs, hub networks, shared mobility, or flexible offerings on travelers, but also on other policy choices? How can we digitally and intelligently connect the supply and demand of mobility—collective transport, shared mobility, public transport, target group transport, local hubs—and thereby contribute to the livability of cities and rural areas? By pooling insights and making them accessible, we create a foundation on which public and private parties can jointly develop and implement data-driven and digital solutions.
Accessibility for everyone
Take the first step toward collaboration
DMI provides a place where mobility professionals from municipalities, regions, mobility providers, researchers, entrepreneurs, innovators, and local communities can come together. Whether you are working on area development, public mobility, shared mobility, hubs, inclusive access, or behavioral change, within DMI you can learn from others, develop digital tools together, and utilize data that you would otherwise never have had access to. We experiment in real areas and build digital solutions that are scalable and add lasting value.

DIGITAL TWINS
Digital representations of the city make it possible to first test policy and solutions virtually and explore various scenarios. This allows you to reach well-considered decisions, limit risks and increase support from residents and stakeholders. At DMI, we make this technology widely applicable and scalable.
TRANSPORT AND LOGISTICS
Space is scarce, new housing must be built, and we want more greenery and fewer emissions. And oh yes, the city could be less crowded. Data and smart tools help with insight into traffic flows and city logistics. DMI facilitates the availability of data and ensures that this data can be optimally shared and reused.
