DMI introduces the Products and Data Exchange (PDX), enabling organisations to share and reuse data securely, transparently and at scale. It provides a trusted foundation for integrated decision-making, helping cities combine information from multiple domains to act faster and more effectively.

How it works?

Behind its simple interface, PDX brings together governance and technology to make data exchange both trustworthy and practical. Every organization and user is verified through a shared identification and authorization framework, ensuring that only trusted participants can exchange information. All transactions are automatically checked against governance rules and logged, creating an auditable trail of accountability.

Through its Products and Services Catalogue, PDX connects data providers and users, making datasets discoverable, accessible, and reusable while allowing data to remain safely at its source.

the 5 PDX components

PDC (Products and Services Catalogue).

Provides an overview of both demand and supply of all available data, tools and services within the DMI ecosystem.

Logging

Records all transactions and interactions ensuring that the use of the PDX remains transparent and can be audited.

Identification, authentication & authorization

Ensures that a user’s identity is verified reliably. Once confirmed, the user is granted access to the PDX.

Transaction Modules

Facilitates the financial and contractual management of data and service transactions between participants.

Supervision (governance)

An independent authority automatically checks that all activities comply with relevant agreements, restrictions, and legal requirements.

The PDC: overview and access

Part of the PDX is the PDC. This is the ecosystem's central "shopping window". Here you will find a clear and accessible offer of data, tools and services from all participants.

DMI participants can also publish a question here, to which other participants can respond. This creates a dynamic marketplace for digital collaboration.

What is a common?

Participants are also offering Commons for some of the products and data on the PDC. These are samples of a product or service that participants get to try for free, e.g. a dataset, an algorithm or a software tool. Each participant thus offers every other participant up to 2,500 euros annually in Commons.

As a participant, you may take up to 2,500 euros of Commons from any other DMI participant. This allows you a low-threshold introduction to the offer without having to invest immediately.

the General Agreement

Our collaboration is based on our General Agreement as a firm foundation. When you become a DMI participant, you agree to all of this document's content. It includes the ground rules for our cooperation, every participant's rights and obligations, the use of the PDX, intellectual property rights, the Commons and governance.

Compliance is checked automatically, as are all transactions against governance rules and logged. Such is done by the independent governance party, consisting of renowned organizations such as UvA, KPMG, AMS-IX and SURF. This creates a firm basis of trust, not only within PDX but equally important, within our network.

BENEFITS OF BECOMING A DMI MEMBER

  1. Municipalities get easy access to data, tools and partners, making it easier to combine information from multiple domains and share knowledge on familiar challenges and tangible solutions.

  2. Companies can raise their profile through Commons, transparent product information and ratings. Supply meets demand in a unique way. Solutions can accelerate through shared standards and interoperable tools, enabling faster scaling and impact.

DMI connects people, data and technology, shaping the future of sustainable cities worldwide.

marketplaces

A marketplace is where DMI participants can offer and find data, products and services.

Figure showing the three marketplaces

Three marketplaces are currently available within the DMI ecosystem: those of Dexes/Luminis, WeCity and Future Insight. All three are reliable Dutch parties, working on behalf of the DMI ecosystem.
