What is going on in a neighborhood? What is the situation in terms of residents' livelihood security, health and equity? To what extent are there debt problems? With the data from their Social Atlas, DMI participants Tom Griffioen of Clappform and Johan Posseth of Kurtosis give municipalities insight into the state of their city's social situation. "With this you can see in context how a neighborhood is doing," says Griffioen.

The pressure on municipalities to meet goals in the areas of sustainability, climate adaptation and energy transition is increasing. At the same time, they are struggling with a shortage of manpower and resources. Things have to be done faster, smarter and more sustainable. But how do we do that? According to Marco Scheffers, data and digitalization consultant at the City of Amsterdam, at least part of the answer lies in parametric design.

How do you make the complexity of urban development palpable and tangible? Novis & De Meij, participant in the DMI ecosystem, found a surprising answer: a data walk. Twelve DMI participants walked together on Friday, Sept. 12, through the Zuidas, an area where urban densification, infrastructure and mobility converge. "We let participants experience the area in 3-D," says Dr. K. K., who is a member of DMI.
